An estimated 32.51 lakh tonnes (0.91 percent) less will be produced in India’s horticulture in 2023–24 than in the final predictions for 2022–2023—roughly 352.23 million tonnes.
Vegetable production is predicted to decrease in 2023–24 based on the second estimate, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
As predicted in the second advance estimate for 2023–2024, there would be a decrease in the production of potatoes, onions, brinjal (eggplant), and other vegetables.
It is predicted that the amount of onions produced will decline dramatically from 302.08 lakh tonnes in 2023–2024 to 242.12 lakh tonnes in 2023–2024, a decrease of around 60 lakh tonnes.
It is anticipated that 112.63 million tonnes of fruits will be produced, mostly due to increases in the yields of bananas, guavas, mangoes, limes/lemons, and grapes.
The estimated amount of vegetables produced is 204.96 million tonnes.
On the other hand, it is expected that pomegranate and apple production would decline in comparison to last year.
With a rise in the production of bottle gourd, bitter gourd, cabbage, cauliflower, and tomatoes, the estimated amount of vegetables produced is around 204.96 million tons.
It is also anticipated that potato production will decrease to approximately 567.62 lakh tonnes, a decrease of roughly 34 lakh tonnes, mostly as a result of lower outputs in West Bengal and Bihar.
On the other hand, it is anticipated that tomato production will rise by 3.98 percent, from roughly 204.25 lakh tonnes to 212.38 lakh tonnes in 2023–2024. This demonstrates a divergent pattern in the nation’s horticultural production of various crops.
