At a time when the entire India and its supporters all over the world was expecting another nail-biting clash with Pakistan in the final on Sunday, a determined England on Thursday poured cold water into the tempo as it outsmart India in a one-sided game in the semis. That ended India’s long and excruciating wait for a ‘World Cup’ title.
England’s two openers practically single-handedly finished India’s journey for this world cup with an emphatic 10-wicket win. The final now will be played between England and Pakistan.
Chasing 169, England openers Jos Buttler and Alex Hales gave their side a powerful start. Both were dealing in fours and sixes from the get-go. India did not get to have a dominating powerplay with the ball as both Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh were smashed around mercilessly.
England finished their innings at 170/0 in 16 overs, with Buttler (80) and Hales (86) unbeaten.
