Following a deadly mosque attack that claimed the lives of at least five individuals, including a woman and a child, in the Guzara district of Herat province, residents are urging for enhanced security measures. The attackers’ identities remain unclear, according to security officials.

The assailants targeted the mosque in Mohammadiya during evening prayers. Mohammad Zaman, a Herat resident, emphasized the need for securing places of worship, stating, “It is the nation’s demand that the government should secure all mosques and should pay more attention to this matter.”

Another resident, Asadullah Qeemet, echoed the call for increased security, saying, “Security must be taken so that people no longer suffer; this is my request from the government.”

This incident comes five months after a separate attack by gunmen in the Jabriyal neighborhood of Herat City, which resulted in the deaths of six individuals, including two Shia clergy and two women.

Residents of Herat are urging for the identification and prosecution of those responsible for the recent attacks in their province. However, no group has claimed responsibility for the mosque attack thus far. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
