In response to a comment made by Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said, “Grand old party never puts anyone under pressure. I also don’t want to imply that the government is exerting pressure, but there is an instance where a person who receives a three-year sentence has his membership maintained, whereas Rahul Gandhi, who was truthful, had his membership revoked.”

Kiren Rijiju, the law minister, asserted on Monday that the Congress is attempting to put “undue pressure” on the judiciary.

Kharge slammed Centre over the quick disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from Parliament post- Surat Court’s verdict on the 2019 defamation case. Kharge said, “The culmination of the hypocrisy and hypocrisy of the Modi government – In the case of killing a Dalit doctor, local court, sessions court and the high court sentenced BJP MP from Gujarat to 3 years imprisonment, but no disqualification for 16 days!”
