The strike by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) workers has been going on for the last 5 days at Rajasthan University regarding seven-point demands. On Friday, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad workers performed Sadbuddhi Yagya on the campus and demanded the Vice Chancellor to fulfil their 7-point demands.
During this, Civil Lines MLA Gopal Sharma met the workers. Sharma has assured the ABVP workers that appropriate action will be taken after listening to the workers’ demands, also assured all the workers that he would meet the Governor and the Police Commissioner regarding their demands.
One of the protesting students said, “Until the university administration removes the corrupt Professor Om Mahala, their demands are not met. Till then our protest and dharna will continue.”
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad Rajasthan University unit president Rohit Meena said, “The female professor was being harassed by Professor Om Mahala. Scholarships of common students were stopped. Despite this, the university administration did not take any action against Mahala. Because of this, there is an atmosphere of fear among the common students of the university. In such a situation, if the university administration does not fulfil our demands as soon as possible, then fierce demonstrations will be held.”
“We are not afraid”
Manu Dadhich, unit minister of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad Rajasthan University, said, “We are protesting in a Gandhian way. Despite this, we were lathi-charged by the university administration. But we are not afraid. Unless Om Mahala is relieved from her duty an investigation is started against her. Till then our movement will continue.”
Dean and HOD of the Social Science Department, Professor Om Mahala, who is in controversies regarding molestation and harassment of women professors and research students, should be relieved from his post, WiFi facility should be started on the campus, security should be provided to prevent wild animals from coming to the campus.
Students are protesting for increasing the system, digitalization of the Central Library and other demands.
