Abhay takes a dig at Bollywood, says a film can be made on its ‘corrupt practices’

Actor Abhay Deol has taken a dig at Bollywood, saying “one could make a film about the corrupt practices” prevailing in the film industry. Abhay penned his thoughts on Instagram while recalling the shoot of his 2012 release, Shanghai, which revolves around the issue of corruption in politics. “Shanghai, released in 2012. A contemporary Indian take on the Greek novel Z by author Vassilis Vassilikos. Directed by Dibakar Banerji, this film puts systemic corruption in politics front and center, with devastating impact. Extremely relevant today. Looks like these days one could make a film about the corrupt practices of Bollywood,” the actor wrote.

Abhay also praised people who have been exposing malpractices within Bollywood after Sushant Singh Rajput’s demise. “By the way, not sure if the current outrage will give rise to an independent Hindi film and music industry, without the unoriginal tag of ‘Bollywood’, but it sure feels good to hear loud voices from within the industry, risking their careers for the bigger ‘picture,” he added. Lately, singers Sonu Nigam and Adnan Sami, besides actors Ranvir Shorey and Sahil Khan, have been among Bollywood celebrities who have come out to speak about nepotism and power play in Bollywood.

Card Counting Strategy in Blackjack Explained

Counting cards is one of the most infamous strategies touted to work like a charm in the famed blackjack table game. However, as effective as it often is, it takes time to master so that you can execute the moves seamlessly.

Interestingly, like any other strategy, effective card counting is just a matter of following some simple steps to the letter, and you’ll be raking in substantial wins consistently. So, whether you play blackjack in land-based casinos or are more into live dealer action on leading iGaming platforms like https://vulkanvegas.com/ca/category/live-casino, read on to discover the basics of counting cards.

What is Card Counting?

Card counting in blackjack depends on your prowess in mathematics combined with statistics and probability. In this strategy, the goal is to determine whether the next hand dealt will benefit you (the player) or the dealer. And you’ll have this vital insight by keeping a running count of the high and low-value cards dealt in the game to ultimately get an edge over the house.

Depending on how good your memory span is, card counting gives you an almost accurate idea of the composition of the remaining cards as the dealing continues in the game. With this knowledge, you can make wise decisions in your gameplay that will increase your success rate as you enjoy the game.

So, every time a card is laid down, you either add the number assigned to it or subtract it from the running total. If the value of the card laid down is 0, then nothing will change in your running count. So, logically, low-valued cards will increase the number of high cards remaining in the set and thus increase the count. Similarly, the opposite scenario also checks out with high-valued cards, increasing the number of low cards and thus reducing the number of the count.

With proper practice in the art of card counting, you will be able to gauge when to bet big and when to bet small to increase your chances of winning big and, of course, mitigate your losses. That being said, let’s get to the actual steps you will take when executing the card counting blackjack strategy.

Steps of Card Counting in Blackjack

There are a few steps you should follow to count cards effectively in blackjack. They are as follows:

  1. Assign each card a value based on the plus-minus count. For example, cards 2 to 6 will have a +1 count, cards 7 to 9 will have a 0 count, and cards 10 to Ace will have a -1 count.
  2. Start the count at 0, then add the card’s value to the count as each card is dealt.
  3. Continue with the count as the cards are dealt out of the deck. Then, progressively make your betting decision based on the count.

The strategy here is to bet higher if the count is low and lower if the count is high to hit massive wins when the time is right and still minimize your losses. Remember, these steps are not exclusive to land-based blackjack gaming; you may also borrow a leaf and apply them to online blackjack.

Blackjack Card Counting Systems

The blackjack game has a few card counting systems that may differ in some ways. Some may be rather straightforward, while others may be a little complicated. Let’s take a closer look:

The Hi-Lo System

Also called the ‘basic card counting system,’ the Hi-Lo system is the simplest blackjack counting method. The system uses the three steps outlined above and is mainly recommended for beginners.

The Omega II System

Developed by Bruce Carlson, the Omega II system of blackjack card counting is a multi-level strategy. In this approach, some cards are assigned two points, whereas others are assigned only one point. That being said, here is how the values are tallied:

  • Cards 2, 3 and 7: Value +1
  • Cards 4, 5 and 6: Value +2
  • Card 9: Value -1
  • Cards 10, King, Queen and Jack: Value -2
  • Cards Aces and 8: Value 0

The Hi-Opt I and Hi-Opt II

Under the Hi-Opt I, here are how the values are assigned:

  • Cards 3, 4, 5 and 6: Value +1
  • Cards King, Queen, Jack and 10s: Value -1
  • Cards 2, 7, 8 and 9: Value 0

On the other hand, the Hi-Opt II system assigns the values as follows:

  • Cards 2, 3, 6 or 7: Value +1
  • Cards 4 and 5: Value +2
  • Cards 10, King, Queen and Jack: Value -2
  • Cards 8, 9 or Ace: Value 0

Parting Shot

We’ve only just looked at some of the most straightforward blackjack card counting systems that are perfect for beginners and mid-level players. Pro-level players can use more complicated card counting strategies such as the Wrong halves system, the Red 7 system and the KO system, just to mention a few. Well, whichever way you go, all these systems will help you get ahead in your blackjack gaming endeavours.

However, it is worth noting that the practice is largely frowned upon by many casinos as it is considered a dirty trick. So, before using the strategy in a land-based casino, find out the house rules, as you may get kicked out of the lobby. Nonetheless, mastering the techniques of card counting is definitely something all blackjack players should master as it will boost their winning potential.

Govindpur hamlet in Odisha declares itself ‘Birds Village’

In order to safeguard the birds that come to Hirakud Reservoir during their breeding and migration seasons, Govindpur village in the Indian state of Odisha has declared itself to be a “Birds Village.”

Residents of the Lakhanpur wildlife range village, which is next to Hirakud Lake in Bargarh district, have pledged to maintain the region clean for the birds that come.

Under the direction of the Hirakud wildlife division, the residents have taken the initiative.

A forest official said the involvement of the villagers will create a sense of ownership among them to protect the birds.

In a meeting, the two neighbouring villages of Tamdei and Ramkhol also vowed to support bird protection.

The official said all houses in these villages will have wall paintings of the colourful birds like the Redcrested Pochard, Moorhen, and Skimmer.

The Hirakud Division has built adequate trash cans for the purpose, but the neighbourhood residents nevertheless make an effort to keep the area clean.

The Hirakud Lake will become a Ramsar site in 2022, which is likely to draw a lot of tourists and photographers to the region.

Every year, more than 2 lakh birds travel to Hirakud Reservoir for breeding and remain there for six months. Every year in October, migratory birds of roughly 100 species visit the 746 sq. km. reservoir.

Visitors to these three villages for picnics, boating, and bird viewing come from Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and districts in Odisha, including Jharsuguda, Bolangir, Sonepur, and Sambalpur, as well as inhabitants from the Bargarh districts.

Many photographers too come here to capture images of temples submerged in Hirakud reservoir and the wildlife of Debrigarh Sanctuary who come down to drink water, another forest official said.

The official said that signage from Chhattisgarh and in neighbouring districts will soon be installed for directions to guide tourists.

The work on the dustbins, signboards, and wall paintings has already begun.

The official said books and printed material on birds and the Hirakud Lake will be distributed among the villagers by the division in the next six months.

Everything You Need to know About Rummy

Card games are popular all over the world. Most families and friends can be seen huddling up playing cards after dinner during weekends, vacations and at get togethers. In many families, it is infact a tradition to participate in a round of two of cards with family members just for sport. It is a great bonding activity for family and friends and helps people to relax and bond over something fun and interesting. There are many card games today but perhaps the most interesting one amongst them all remains the Rummy Card Game. A true and classic game that has been around for time immemorial. Rummy is a game that can be played anywhere and anytime and all one needs is a deck of cards and atleast 3 players. The more the number of players, the more interesting the game can get. The game is so popular that there is an online version of the game that is available to be played via Mobile Apps.

Rummy | Introduction and Facts

A Rummy card game basically is played for friendly betting and gambling. In most cases, the gambling is just for sport. Online Rummy variations use the same concept to help people win cash money by playing opponents online over mobile apps. Rummy is played in almost all parts of the world and therefore the rules differ from one region to another. But standard rummy rules are used in most places so that people from various backgrounds can play without having any misunderstandings of the game and the rules.

Rummy is basically played with 13 cards but this can be changed based on the number of players. If there are more players than 4, the cards dealt can be lower. 13 cards are the golden standard however as this allows for the players to make 4 sets, one of 4 and 3 of 3 cards each. The remaining card becomes the closing card of the player. Rummy is an entertaining and yet a mind engaging game as it requires the players to anticipate the players moves and formulate winning strategies to close the game as early as possible. If the player does not see any possible combinations in the beginning itself, it is wise to fold and wait for the next round.

Playing Rummy | Rules and How To

13 cards are dealt to each player and a random joker is picked (Wild Joker) and placed on the table face up from the remaining pile of cards. The opening card is also placed face up and the game can start from the person who won the last round going clockwise.

The person may either choose the opening card or pick one up from the pile placed on the table and discard one of their own cards and the game moves to the next person until a player declares rummy. To form a rummy, a person must have 4 sets of cards with them:

  • Set 1 with different combinations and same letter (example: A in all 4)
  • Set 2 with same numbers and different suites (example: 5 in 3 suites)
  • Pure Sequence with consecutive numbers in same suite
  • Impure Sequence consecutive with a joker

Jokers can be used 4 times in the entire but the rummy pure sequence cannot include a joker. Atleast 2 sets need to be present to declare a Rummy by the Winner to reveal cash prize.

The Chess Scandal explained – Magnus Carlsen resigned after just one move

The Chess Scandal explained – Magnus Carlsen resigned after just one move

While chess is known as the “game of kings,” an argument more suited to a school playground has been consuming the sport over the last month. World champion Magnus Carlsen recently resigned from a game after making just one move, but how did it get to this point?
The scandal started when Carlsen met American youngster Hans Niemann in the third round of the Sinquefield Cup. Chess has been studied for centuries, and all of the best openings are pretty much memorized, so Carlsen prefers to play opponents with obscure openings. Thus, after a standard Nimzo-Indian opening, he played 4. g3, a move that is pretty much unheard of. But Niemann knew exactly what to play, and this left Carlsen in trouble: the move is obscure for a reason, as it is unsound, and Niemann took a shock victory to end Carlsen’s 53-game unbeaten streak with the White pieces in classical chess over the board against an opponent with a lower rating than him.
Niemann revealed that he had prepared for the opening the night before, “by some miracle”. This raised eyebrows, but what really set the circus in motion was Carlsen’s decision to withdraw from the tournament: considered bad sportsmanship without a very good reason. “If I speak, I get in trouble,” was the image attached to the statement, leading to suspicions that something was amiss. While Carlsen has a reputation as a “sore loser”, he has never gone this far. Niemann angrily responded that the only time he had ever cheated in chess was in unrated online games when he was a child, but the chess website Chess.com said that there was evidence of more cheating than he had admitted to and banned him from the website. Either way, cheating over the board is much harder than in real life, and the organisers said there was no evidence of cheating, but they enhanced checks anyway. Raising suspicions further was the fact that Niemann won two of his first three games, but didn’t win another in the whole tournament after the incident.
The scandal has grown bigger than chess, with the mainstream media excitedly thinking up wacky contraptions and far-fetched theories of ways Niemann could have cheated with a radio device. A more plausible theory is that Carlsen’s preparation could have been leaked, but there is no evidence and Carlsen has made only an indirect accusation. While Niemann may be suspicious, some have criticised the World Champion for sullying the American’s reputation without direct proof, while others have sympathised with him. The two next met in an eagerly-anticipated clash, this time online, at the Julius Baer Generation Cup. But the Norwegian made one move and then resigned and turned off his camera, refusing to give any press conferences. Carlsen seems unperturbed, coming out on top of the preliminary round standings, while Niemann has also advanced to the next stage, meaning the two could meet again in the very near future.
The author is a student studying at the London School of Economics.

Won’t let Nawaz Sharif decide selection of Pak army chief: Imran Khan

Won’t let Nawaz Sharif decide selection of Pak army chief: Imran Khan

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief and former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday warned that he would not let Nawaz Sharif decide the selection of the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) and reiterated his demand that the selection should be done on merit.
“The army chief should be selected on “merit” and the “thieves” should never be allowed to undertake the task,” Imran Khan said while addressing a lawyers’ convention in Lahore, reported The Nation. He also announced that the party would begin its ‘Haqeeqi Azadi’ movement on Saturday, “I will give a call and we will get our country liberated in real terms,” said Khan.
Imran’s announcement comes after the incumbent government of Pakistan beefed up security arrangements in Red Zone areas of Islamabad, saying that “some people were headed towards Islamabad to have their political demands accepted”.
In his address yesterday, the PTI chief again said that those “issuing threats from unknown numbers” should be threatened back — something he had first mentioned in his speech in Chakwal on Monday, reported The Nation.
Earlier on Monday, while addressing a rally in Chakwal, PTI Chief said that when he says that the army chief should be selected on merit, it means Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz should not get to select the next COAS as they are the most corrupt people and do not rely on merit.
“Army chief should be appointed on merit and I believe only those nations prosper which follow merit. DG ISPR, you should have got me right about [army chief appointment comments],” said Imran while referring to his controversial remarks that angered the military.
“So if you want a prosperous Pakistan, the country that Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal had dreamed of, you must come out when I give the call,” said Imran Khan.
He criticised the incumbent government for its economic policies, saying the rupee had greatly depreciated against the dollar and caused inflation and unemployment to soar. He alleged that while the poor people were suffering, the wealth of those in the government was increasing.

Punjab Education Minister urges calm over Chandigarh University protest

Netizens condemn Chandigarh University incident, urge against sharing objectionable videos

Harjot Singh Bains, the Punjab education minister, has called for calm after a massive protest broke out on the Chandigarh University campus after videos of 60 girls bathing were leaked on the internet. The minister urged students to remain calm and the media to be cautious, saying the issue is sensitive and concerns the dignity of “our sisters and daughters.” “I humbly request all Chandigarh University students to remain calm; no one guilty will be spared,” the minister tweeted. “We all, including the media, must be extremely cautious; it is also a test of ours as a society,” he added.

The campus was thrown into chaos after it was discovered that some videos of the hostel girls bathing were available on the internet and were going viral. It was discovered that the videos were created by a female student and sent to a male student in Shimla, who then uploaded them to the internet. According to reports, approximately 60 such videos were leaked. When confronted by other girls and hostel staff, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime.

According to some accounts, the hostel administration attempted to cover up the incident while some of the girls whose videos were leaked attempted suicide, which the police denied. After locking the accused, the students came out and staged a massive protest on campus, after which police arrived and arrested the girl.

Mohali SSP dismissed reports of deaths, injuries, or suicide attempts in the aftermath of the video leak. “It’s a matter of a video being shot by a girl student & circulated. FIR has been registered in the matter and the accused student has been arrested. No death reported related to this incident. As per medical records, no attempt (to commit suicide) was reported,” Mohali SSP said.

“Do not spread any rumours. Let’s talk only based on facts. Medical records of all students have been taken. We will comment further only after the doctors give their reports. This is my request don’t pay attention to rumours. I have told this to the students also. Give us some time for the investigation to be completed,” the SSP said.

Manisha Gulati, the chairperson of the Punjab Women Commission, assured the student’s parents that the accused would not be spared. “This is a serious matter. An investigation is underway,” she said.

Several videos about the incident have gone viral on social media. In one of these unverified videos, the accused is seen being questioned by other students who are questioning her about why she made those videos. The accused allegedly claimed that the Shimla boy to whom she sent the videos forced her to do so.
