Aaftab Amin Poonawala, the suspect in the murder of Shraddha Walkar, said in court in Delhi on Tuesday that he killed his lover in the “heat of the moment.”
Aftab Poonawala was brought before the Saket court through video conferencing in a special hearing on Tuesday, and the court extended his police custody for a further four days. After his five-day police detention period was through, Aaftab was brought before the Saket court.
“What happened, that happened in heat of the moment,” Aaftab told the court.
Aaftab additionally declared that he is aiding the probe. He also admitted to the court that he was having trouble remembering the incident.
In May of this year, the accused reportedly strangled and then dismembered the body of his live-in partner, Shraddha Walker.
Additionally, the Delhi Police filed a petition with a lower court, asking for authorization to test Poonawala’s polygraph.
Police had earlier claimed that Poonawala, who admitted to killing and dismembering his live-in partner, was giving false information.
The case was referred by Saket Court’s metropolitan magistrate, Aviral Shukla, to magistrate Vijayshree Rathore, who authorised a narcoanalysis test on Aftab.
In a previous court filing, Delhi Police claimed that Aftab was providing false information and deceiving the investigation.
The second scientific investigation that Delhi police sought to conduct on Aaftab was the request for a polygraph test.
The court mandated a narcotics test on Aaftab be performed by Rohini Forensic Science Laboratory within five days, on Thursday.
Additionally, a petition has been submitted to the Delhi High Court asking that the Central Bureau of Investigation take over the investigation into the death of Shraddha from the Delhi Police (CBI).
On the basis of Shraddha’s father’s accusation, the Delhi Police solved the six-month-old blind murder case and detained Aftab Amin Poonawalla.
Following their online dating encounter, Aftab and Shraddha moved in together at a Chhatarpur rental home. On November 10, Delhi police got a complaint from Shraddha’s father and filed a FIR.
After killing Shraddha on May 18, Aftab Poonawala began making plans to dispose of her body, according to the Delhi Police’s investigation.
