‘MARK ALL FILES TO NEW CHIEF SECRETARY’: ORDER EVOKES STRONG REACTIONS IN J&K

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has asked all the wings of its administration to mark all files to new Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta, who is going to take charge on Monday.

This unusual official direction to the Jammu and Kashmir administration has evoked tweets from many former ministers and chief ministers, as in the past no such written order has been issued by the administrative department of Jammu and Kashmir.

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah tweeted, “If I didn’t know better I’d read this order to mean the outgoing CS wasn’t too keen to hand over charge to his successor. Either way I haven’t seen an order like this before.”

Former minister Sajad Gani Lone also tweeted on this order: “Just dawned on me that the new CS Mr AK Mehta is from the state cadre. It is natural that he will have a sense of belonging. Hope we always get an officer from our cadre. May I add that I personally don’t know Mr Mehta. Have never seen him. Have never met him.”

While there are a lot of rumours about the transfer of former Chief Secretary B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, a Jammu-based pro-Hindutva outfit IkkJutt Jammu has demanded a comprehensive probe into the his tenure as Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir including on the corruption charges.

IkkJutt Jammu chairman Ankur Sharma told the media on Sunday that only transfer is not enough as people of Jammu and Kashmir want to know about his role in many alleged corruption cases and cover-ups he did as Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier Sajad Gani Lone, through a series of tweets, had criticised the former Chief Secretary for humiliating people of Jammu and Kashmir. In one of his earlier tweets he said, “Will be remembered as the darkest person in the darkest hours of Kashmir. A person consumed by the self and also consumed by hatred for the Kashmiris. Saw expression of naked hatred for Kashmiris and belittlement of Kashmiris as a means of upward mobility for his self.”
