Trump Refuses Tariff Pause, Threatens 50% More on China Amid Global Market Chaos

Washington – US President Donald Trump has made it clear he is “not looking” at a pause in tariffs as the US-China trade war intensifies. Instead, he has threatened to impose an additional 50% tariff on Chinese goods, unless Beijing backs off from its plan to implement a 34% duty on American imports.

“I have great respect for China, but they can not do this,” Trump said from the White House, during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “We’re going to have one shot at this.”

Markets in Turmoil: Global Sell-off After Tariff Announcements

Trump’s tough stance sent shockwaves through financial markets worldwide. Wall Street closed lower, while Hong Kong plummeted by 13.2%, its worst crash in nearly 30 years. Tokyo ended down almost 8%, and Frankfurt fell by as much as 10% before trimming some losses.

Economists warned of rising inflation, disrupted global trade, and a potential recession. JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon said, “Whether or not the tariffs cause a recession remains in question, but it will slow down growth.”

China Hits Back, Warns Against Pressure Tactics

China responded firmly to Trump’s threats, saying in a statement,

“Pressuring or threatening China is not a right way to engage.”

Beijing’s 34% tariff on US goods is set to take effect Thursday, with no signs of compromise from either side.

Republicans React: Worry Over Jobs and Economy

Even Trump’s own party is growing uneasy. Republican Senator Ted Cruz warned the tariffs could lead to job losses, higher consumer prices, and political fallout.

“A recession would mean a bloodbath for Republicans in the midterms,” he said.

More Tariffs Incoming: No Talks for Now

Trump has ruled out any immediate meetings with Chinese officials, but said the US remains open to negotiations with other nations.
A 10% baseline tariff on global imports began Saturday, and new hikes on EU and Chinese goods are scheduled for Wednesday.

The White House confirmed the total extra tariffs on Chinese goods could reach 104% this year if the 50% hike goes ahead.

“Don’t Be Weak, Don’t Be Stupid!” – Trump Urges Public Support

Taking to social media minutes before markets opened, Trump rallied Americans with a bold message:

“Don’t be Weak! Don’t be Stupid! Be Strong, Courageous, and Patient, and GREATNESS will be the result!”

As the tariff standoff escalates, the world watches closely. With talks frozen, economies shaking, and political pressure mounting, the US-China trade war has entered a high-stakes phase.
