A viral reel filmed at the historic Gwalior Fort has ignited major controversy after a woman was seen using inappropriate language while sitting on ancient Jain Tirthankar idols. The incident has drawn sharp criticism from the Jain community, who are demanding strict legal action.

Identified as Preeti Kushwah, a resident of Narwar in Shivpuri district, the woman was seen wearing footwear while sitting on the sacred idols, casually referring to them as mere “stone statues” and comparing them to “plastic and wooden dummies.” The reel, now widely circulated on social media, has enraged members of the Jain faith, who view the idols as deeply revered.

The Akhil Bharatiya Shri Digambar Jain Baraiya Mahasabha has filed a formal complaint with Gwalior SSP Dharmveer Singh, calling for an FIR and immediate arrest of those involved in the video.

Jain monk Muni Vilok Sagar Ji condemned the actions, stating, “Such behavior hurts religious sentiments and disrespects cultural heritage. Even damaged or old idols should not be insulted.” He emphasized the need for strong legal consequences against those who mock any religion.

Police officials have acknowledged the incident and confirmed an investigation is underway. “Appropriate action will be taken based on the findings,” a spokesperson said.

The idols located at the base of Gwalior Fort are considered historically and spiritually significant, and the incident has brought renewed attention to the need for better protection of sacred heritage sites.
