The much-awaited schedule for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has been revealed after a prolonged delay. Initially expected last month, the announcement was held up due to a standoff between the BCCI, PCB, and ICC over the venue for India’s matches. The tournament, returning for the first time since 2017, was at risk when the BCCI refused to send the Indian team to Pakistan – the host country – citing security issues. To resolve the deadlock, the ICC suggested using a Hybrid Model, which would see India’s matches played at a neutral location.
Although the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) initially rejected this proposal, the ICC eventually made some concessions to the PCB, which led to the confirmation of the schedule on Tuesday (December 24).
What is the Hybrid Model?
Under this format, all of India’s matches in the Champions Trophy will be played at a neutral venue, including the highly anticipated clash with Pakistan. A similar Hybrid Model was employed during the 2023 Asia Cup, which saw India’s matches played in Sri Lanka, despite the tournament being hosted by Pakistan. For the Champions Trophy, Dubai has been chosen as the neutral venue.
India and Pakistan in the Same Group
India, Pakistan, New Zealand, and Bangladesh are placed in Group A, while Australia, England, South Africa, and Afghanistan form Group B.
