The Delhi unit of the Congress party has demanded the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing him of insulting Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar.
Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav announced that Congress workers would hold padayatras across all districts and blocks of the capital to protest against the Union Home Minister’s remarks in Parliament.
Yadav claimed that Amit Shah’s statements were not only an affront to Dr. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, but also an insult to the people of India as a whole. He argued that Shah’s comments revealed the anti-Dalit and anti-Constitutional mindset of the BJP and RSS leadership. Yadav called for Amit Shah’s immediate resignation and a public apology, asserting that Shah’s continuation as the Union Home Minister is an insult to the ideals of justice, equality, and dignity upheld by Dr. Ambedkar.
Addressing the media, Yadav criticized the BJP leadership for failing to express any remorse or repentance over Shah’s conduct. He said the BJP’s refusal to take accountability for the statements has deepened the hurt caused to millions of Indians. Instead of addressing the issue, Yadav alleged, the BJP has defended Shah’s remarks, further exacerbating the situation. He accused the party of targeting Rahul Gandhi with an FIR out of fear of Gandhi’s efforts to protect the Constitution, democracy, and the rights of backward and underprivileged communities, rather than taking action his derogatory remarks.
Yadav went on to denounce the BJP’s rhetoric on uplifting Scheduled Castes and marginalized communities as hollow and hypocritical. He claimed their actions contradict their claims, as they work to maintain systemic inequalities and deny these communities their rightful representation and resources. Yadav asserted that Amit Shah’s insult to Dr. Ambedkar was a calculated attempt to perpetuate such inequalities, further exposing the BJP’s agenda against social justice and equality.
