On Sunday, organs from a brain-dead man were airlifted from Jhalawar to Jaipur and Jodhpur. This has been a first historic achievement for organ transplantation in Rajasthan. For the first time, the organs were airlifted through helicopters. While one kidney, two lungs, and the heart have been sent to Jaipur for transplant surgeries, another kidney and the liver will be flown to AIIMS Jodhpur.
The donor was 33-year-old Vishnu Prasad, a resident of Manpura Pipaji in Jhalawar district, who sustained injuries during a scuffle on December 10 and was declared brain-dead on December 12. Following his family’s consent to organ donation, the organs were dispatched to assist six patients.
SMS Hospital Superintendent Dr. Deepak Maheshwari confirmed the transplant success in Jaipur. The helicopter carrying the organs landed at SMS Medical College in Jaipur, and a green corridor was created for its quick transfer to SMS Hospital. From there, it continued its flight to Jodhpur for the delivery of the remaining organs.
Neurosurgeon Dr. Ramsevak Yogi from Jhalawar Medical College said that Prasad was admitted on December 11 with severe injuries and was declared brain-dead by a medical committee. Prasad’s family, in the presence of Jhalawar District Collector Ajay Singh Rathore and other senior doctors, gave their consent for the donation.
