Lieutenant General Kanwal Jeet Singh ‘Tiny’ Dhillon (Retd.) has been awarded the Crossword Books Award for Best Non-Fiction Book in the Popular Choice Category for his debut work, KITNE GHAZI AAYE KITNE GHAZI GAYE. The award was presented by Bachi Karkaria during a ceremony at The Lalit Mumbai on December 8, 2024.
Lt Gen KJS Dhillon’s debut book offers a deeply personal and evocative account of the most challenging phases of his life, spanning from his early childhood to his tenure as the Commander of the Chinar Corps. Kashmir forms an integral part of his narrative, reflecting the complexities of the region’s history and politics.

The memoir provides an insider’s perspective on significant historical events such as the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits, the Pulwama terror attack, the Balakot airstrikes, and the abrogation of Article 370. It delves into the socio-political, economic, and law-and-order implications of these events, uncovering behind-the-scenes insights at a pivotal time in Jammu and Kashmir’s history.
Commissioned in December 1983, Lt Gen Dhillon’s illustrious military career spans 35 years. He has held diverse command, staff, and instructional roles, including serving as Sector Commander of Rashtriya Rifles and Brigadier General Staff of the 15 Corps, also known as the Chinar Corps. Before his role as Chinar Corps Commander, he served as Director General of Perspective Planning.
The General served in Jammu and Kashmir across five tenures starting from 1988. He is an alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, and the National Defence College, Delhi. His career also includes key appointments at Army Headquarters and instructional roles at the Infantry School in Mhow and the Indian Army Training Team abroad.
On assuming command of the Chinar Corps, Lt Gen Dhillon extended warm greetings and best wishes to the people of Kashmir and the entire Chinar Corps fraternity, embodying his commitment to the region and its people.
