Barry Keoghan, the Oscar-nominated actor known for his roles in The Banshees of Inisherin and Saltburn, has decided to deactivate his Instagram account due to relentless online harassment. In his statement, the actor voiced his frustration over the “disgusting commentary” and false rumors targeting his personal life.
Harassment and False Rumors
Keoghan expressed his distress over the harmful messages circulating about his character, family, and role as a father. These included baseless rumors about his relationship with his infant son and his recent breakup with singer Sabrina Carpenter. Consequently, Keoghan addressed the issue on X (formerly Twitter), revealing the emotional toll these attacks have taken on him and his loved ones.
Statement on Social Media
In his post, Keoghan wrote, “I can only sit and take so much. My name has been dragged across the internet in ways I usually don’t respond to. I have to respond now because it’s getting to a place where there are too many lines being crossed.” As a result, he decided to deactivate his account to focus on his family and his work.
Escalation of Harassment
Unfortunately, the harassment escalated beyond online comments. Keoghan disclosed that some individuals had even gone as far as showing up at his family’s door, stating, “They knocked on my granny’s door and were sitting outside my baby boy’s house intimidating them.” This, he said, crossed a line he could no longer tolerate.
Protecting His Family
Keoghan emphasized his commitment to being the best father he can be. He shared, “Each and every day I work harder to push myself on every level to be the healthiest and strongest person for that boy.” He also urged people to consider the long-term impact on his son, adding, “He has to read ALL of this about his father when he is older. Please be respectful to all.”
Breakup with Sabrina Carpenter
This situation follows the news of Keoghan’s breakup with Sabrina Carpenter. While their relationship had already been scrutinized for its rapid progression, rumors of infidelity have since emerged. However, neither Keoghan nor Carpenter has confirmed the reasons behind their split.
