Santosh Singh, a jeep driver, faced a terrifying attack which occurred in Hematpur, but he fought courageously and protected 15 passengers on Thursday. Despite being seriously injured in the stomach, he ensured their safety. Now, he is fighting for his life in a hospital.
Singh’s Condition
Doctors described Singh’s injuries as severe. Dr. Vikash Singh said, “His entire intestine has been damaged by the bullet injury. He underwent major surgery, and though the damaged areas have been repaired, he will remain under observation for at least a week. At present, his condition is stable.”
Police Ramp Up Investigation
The police are treating the incident seriously. Jagdishpur SDPO Rajiv Chandra Singh said, “We are taking this matter very seriously and have involved the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and District Intelligence Unit (DIU) teams.” They inspected the route of the attack and sought local assistance to identify the attacker.
Multiple Vehicles Targeted
The attack was not limited to Singh’s jeep. Two other vehicles in the convoy, returning from a tilak ceremony, were also attacked. Police recovered a pellet from a tyre on one of the vehicles. Investigators suspect a mentally unstable individual was involved. “Locals confirmed the suspect does not belong to the area after being shown a sketch,” the SDPO added.
Family Avoids Allegations
Singh’s family filed a complaint with the Bihiya police station but refrained from naming anyone. “The family has claimed no enmity with anyone,” the SDPO stated.
Santosh Singh’s bravery has moved the community. While the police continue their investigation, the village prays for his recovery.
