Israel Secures $5.2 Billion Deal With Boeing For Advanced F-15 Jets, Look At It Key Features

Israel’s defense ministry announced Thursday that it had signed a $5.2 billion agreement with Boeing to purchase 25 next-generation F-15 fighter jets, financed by US military aid. The deal includes an option for an additional 25 jets, with deliveries set to begin in 2031. The aircraft will be delivered in batches of four to six annually.

Defense Ministry Director General Eyal Zamir emphasized the strategic significance of this acquisition, noting that the new F-15s, alongside Israel’s previously procured F-35s, would significantly enhance the country’s air power. Zamir highlighted that these capabilities have already proven vital in the ongoing conflict.

Here are seven key features of the F-15 fighter jet:

  1. High Thrust-to-Weight Ratio and Low Wing-Loading: This combination ensures the F-15’s agility, allowing it to perform tight turns at high speeds, which is essential for evading or engaging enemy aircraft.
  2. Advanced Avionics System: Equipped with an integrated avionics system that includes a head-up display, inertial navigation, and tactical support, the F-15 excels in both friendly and hostile airspaces.
  3. Pulse-Doppler Radar: The F-15’s radar system can detect and track targets at long distances, even distinguishing between targets and ground clutter, improving targeting accuracy.
  4. Electronic Warfare System (EWS): Featuring threat warnings and automatic countermeasures, the F-15’s EWS is designed to defend against radar-guided threats, enhancing its survivability.
  5. Flexible Weapon Integration: The F-15 can carry a variety of air-to-air missiles, such as the AIM-120 AMRAAM and AIM-9 Sidewinder, enabling it to engage targets at various ranges with ease.
  6. Internal 20mm Gatling Gun: For close-range combat, the F-15 is equipped with an M61 Vulcan Gatling gun, providing high-rate firepower when missiles are less effective.
  7. Proven Combat Legacy: First flown in 1972, the F-15 has undergone continuous upgrades, ensuring it remains relevant and adaptable in modern combat scenarios. Israel’s new order for these next-generation jets underscores the aircraft’s enduring value.

This agreement marks a significant step in enhancing Israel’s air force capabilities as it faces evolving security challenges in the region.
