As the 2024 US presidential elections approach, Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B has taken a stand against Elon Musk after he labeled her a “puppet” for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.

Musk, a staunch supporter of Donald Trump, made his comments in a quote-tweet while responding to a Trump fan account that shared a clip of Cardi B at a Milwaukee rally for Harris. Musk remarked, “Another puppet who can’t even talk without being fed the words,” seemingly referencing a moment during the rally when Cardi experienced a teleprompter malfunction and stalled for time while someone handed her a phone with her speech points.

In response, Cardi B fired back, stating, “I’m not a puppet, Elon. I’m a daughter of two immigrant parents who worked hard to provide for me!” She elaborated on her background, saying, “I’m a product of welfare, I’m a product of Section 8, I’m a product of poverty and a reflection of what happens when the system is rigged against you… But you don’t know anything about that. You don’t understand the American struggle… PS fix my algorithm,” she added, referring to her issues with social media visibility.

Musk, who was born in South Africa to affluent parents, has been criticized by Cardi for his lack of understanding of the struggles faced by many Americans.

During her rally speech, Cardi B passionately addressed issues of women’s rights and condemned Trump’s sexism. She stated, “Just like Kamala Harris, I too have been the underdog, underestimated, and belittled. Women must work ten times harder and still face scrutiny about our success. I can’t stand a bully, but just like Kamala, I always stand up to one.”

The presidential election is set for November 5, 2024.
