Diwali 2024: While the festival of Diwali is a time of joy and celebration for many, it turned tragic for some in Jaipur and other parts of Rajasthan. Despite the usual prayers for prosperity and happiness, over 100 people in Rajasthan sustained injuries in various accidents involving fireworks and crackers during the festival.

In Jaipur, several children were among those affected, with half a dozen admitted to the state’s largest hospital, Sawai Man Singh Hospital. Sadly, six children from nearby districts lost their eyesight due to firecracker incidents. Hospital Superintendent Dr. Sunil Bhati shared that surgeries were being conducted to attempt to restore partial vision to these children. A young girl also lost her eyesight after gunpowder entered her eyes. Dr. Bhati noted that, on Diwali, the hospital kept its operating theater open day and night, treating around 80 patients with severe burns, of whom about 10 remain in critical condition.
