New York: On the occasion of Diwali, former President Donald Trump extended his wishes to Hindus worldwide, but his message took a sharp turn as he spotlighted the ongoing atrocities faced by Hindus in Bangladesh. In a statement released on Thursday, Trump expressed his discontent with current U.S. leadership, specifically targeting President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for allegedly ignoring the concerns of Hindu communities.

Condemnation of Violence Against Minorities

In his remarks, Trump condemned the violence against Hindus, Christians, and other minority groups in Bangladesh. He referred to the social unrest following student protests that led to the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The interim government, led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, has struggled to address the rising Islamist attacks against these communities.

“I strongly condemn the barbaric violence against Hindus, Christians, and other minorities who are getting attacked and looted by mobs in Bangladesh, which remains in a total state of chaos,” Trump stated, emphasizing his stance against the violence that he claims would not have occurred during his administration.

Critique of Current Administration

Trump did not hold back in his critique of Biden and Harris, asserting that they have been a disaster in various foreign policy arenas, including Israel and Ukraine, as well as domestic issues like the southern border crisis. “They have ignored Hindus across the world and in America,” he lamented.

Promising to restore strength and peace, Trump declared, “We will Make America Strong Again and bring back Peace through Strength!”

A Tradition of Diwali Celebrations

As part of his Diwali message, Trump wished everyone a joyful festival, stating, “Happy Diwali to All. I hope the Festival of Lights leads to the Victory of Good over Evil!” During his presidency, Trump celebrated Diwali at the White House for four consecutive years, from 2017 to 2020, often joined by former First Lady Melania Trump and daughter Ivanka Trump.

Conclusion

Trump’s Diwali wishes have sparked renewed discussions on the issues facing Hindus globally, particularly in Bangladesh. His focus on these concerns signals an effort to engage Hindu voters in the upcoming November 5 presidential elections, promising a return to policies that prioritize their rights and safety.
