Tension Surge Iran Vows Proportional Retaliation To Israeli Airstrikes, US Issues Warning

In the wake of Israeli airstrikes that targeted various locations in Iran, Tehran has pledged a “proportional” response. Over the weekend, Israel confirmed it conducted “precise” strikes on Iranian targets as retaliation for an attack that occurred on October 1. Following these developments, explosions were reported in five areas of Tehran, leading to a temporary suspension of flight operations within the country.

An official from Iran, speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, asserted that the nation is prepared to retaliate against what it perceives as Israeli aggression. The official emphasized Iran’s right to respond to any hostile actions, declaring, “There is no doubt that Israel will receive the appropriate response to any move against Iran.” The statement further warned that any Israeli action would elicit a “harsh, proportional, and well-calculated” response.

The Iranian state news agency IRNA reported that Iran’s air defense system successfully intercepted most of the attacks and noted that the Israeli strikes resulted in “little damage.” The Iranian air defense command criticized Israel’s “adventurous actions,” insisting that these aggressions occurred despite prior warnings.

In response to Iran’s threats of retaliation, the White House issued a statement calling for an end to direct military exchanges between Israel and Iran. A senior official warned Tehran of potential “consequences” if it chooses to retaliate. The official stated that the Biden administration believes the Israeli operation should effectively conclude any immediate conflict, with support from other allies.

US President Joe Biden received a briefing on the situation on Friday, and Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin engaged in discussions with Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant to obtain updates and reaffirm the US commitment to Israel’s security.

Additionally, Saudi Arabia condemned the Israeli strikes, labeling them a violation of sovereignty and international law. The Kingdom urged all involved parties to exercise maximum restraint and work toward de-escalating the ongoing conflict.
