A devastating fire broke out early Sunday morning in a shop located on the ground floor of a multi-storey building in Mumbai’s Chembur, killing seven members of the Gupta family, including two children. The fire began around 5:20 am at plot no. 16/1, Sidharth Colony, KN Gaikwad Marg, and quickly spread, claiming the lives of Presi Prem Gupta (6), Manju Prem Gupta (30), Anita Dharamdev Gupta (39), Prem Chediram Gupta (30), Narendra Gupta (10), Vidhi Chediram Gupta (15), and Gita Devi Dharamdev Gupta (60).
According to Hemraj Singh Rajput, DCP Zone 6, the family lived on the two upper floors of the G+2 building, while the shop was on the ground floor. Two individuals sleeping in the shop managed to escape. Rajput confirmed that the fire is believed to have been caused by a short circuit in the electrical wiring near the shop.
Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene to extinguish the fire, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause. Further details are awaited.
