A man in Texas went viral after buying a Taylor Swift-autographed guitar for $4,000 (Rs 3,35,215) at the Ellis County Wild Game Dinner auction, only to immediately destroy it. The event, held near Dallas to support agricultural education, took a shocking turn when the man used a hammer to smash the guitar, receiving cheers from the audience before the host stepped in.

The guitar, donated by a third party along with a certificate of authenticity, has since become the focus of online discussions. Many speculate that the man’s actions were a protest against Taylor Swift’s recent endorsement of Kamala Harris in the 2024 U.S. presidential election. However, his true intentions remain unclear.

This incident sparked widespread debate on social media, with many criticizing the act as unnecessary and wasteful. One user commented, “People like this live to hate… This kind of hate needs to stop.” Another observed, “Taylor Swift is worth $1 billion. He just set $4,000 on fire. He must be struggling in this economy.”

A representative for the Ellis County Wild Game explained the situation, stating the act wasn’t intended to be malicious. “He was just making a light-hearted statement showing disapproval of people in the entertainment industry trying to influence politics,” they told WFAA. The spokesperson added that all proceeds from the event go toward youth and agricultural education programs.

Last month, Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris and Tim Walz for the 2024 election, encouraging her 283 million followers to register to vote. This endorsement has fueled speculation regarding the motives behind the guitar-smashing act.
