West Bengal is set to host a significant semiconductor investment following an announcement by U.S. President Joe Biden and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The project involves the establishment of a Global Capability Centre by GlobalFoundries in Kolkata, marking a major leap in India-U.S. defense and technology cooperation. In her social media post, Banerjee highlighted the state’s relentless efforts in securing the landmark semiconductor investment. She underscored how the State IT Department and PSU Webel worked tirelessly to attract major semiconductor companies, especially after the pandemic, when many chip-designing startups relocated to IT parks in Kolkata. These efforts included hosting technology symposiums and promoting West Bengal as an attractive destination for knowledge-based industries.

She emphasized her government’s commitment to supporting this initiative, ensuring it helps West Bengal become a global destination for advanced technology sectors.
