BFF Selena Gomez Roasts JD Vance At Emmys, Joking About “Childless Cat Ladies”

At the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, Selena Gomez playfully roasted JD Vance, Donald Trump’s vice-presidential pick, while presenting alongside her “Only Murders in the Building” co-stars, Martin Short and Steve Martin. Gomez humorously referred to herself as a “childless cat lady,” echoing Vance’s past controversial remarks targeting Democratic leaders.

Vance’s 2021 comments, made during an interview with Tucker Carlson, resurfaced following his nomination. He had criticized Democratic leaders, describing them as “childless cat ladies” dissatisfied with their lives and wanting to impose their misery on the nation.

Gomez’s joke came after Taylor Swift, who endorsed Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, mockingly embraced the “childless cat lady” label in her endorsement. Gomez’s jab followed lighthearted banter between her co-stars, with Short and Martin poking fun at each other’s age before Gomez joined in with her comment.

Candice Bergen also took a swipe at Vance during her appearance, recalling her own experience with political criticism. Bergen, star of the TV show ‘Murphy Brown’, remembered being attacked by Vice President Dan Quayle for portraying a single mother. Comparing Vance’s comments to Quayle’s past criticism, Bergen quipped, “My work here is done. Meow.”

The witty banter from the stars drew positive reactions from viewers on social media, with many praising the trio’s chemistry and humor, which set the tone for the evening.
