Manish Kumar Sachar, DIG of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), visited Thangkanphai village in Kangpokpi district, Manipur, and interacted with displaced families of the Kuki community living in relief camps. His visit comes amidst ongoing unrest in the region, with over 100 families expressing their primary desire to return to normalcy and rebuild their lives.
Kuki Community’s Plea: “We Just Want to Go Home”
During his visit to the Songpehjang relief camp in Saikul Hilltown, DIG Sachar highlighted the Kuki community’s peaceful stance. “There are around 100 families living here, and they have no demands other than returning to their homes. We are working towards ensuring their safe return and helping them restart their lives. Their only concern is the potential threat to their safety, and we are committed to addressing that,” said DIG Sachar.
Security Forces Maintain Control Amid Violence in Manipur
On September 11, DIG Sachar confirmed that the situation in Manipur remains under control following a recent surge of violence. Forces, including the CRPF, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police, have been deployed across key areas such as the interstate checkpost border at Gamgiphai, which separates the Kuki-dominated Kangpokpi district from the Meitei-majority West Imphal district.
“We are actively monitoring the borders and conducting regular checks to prevent any unauthorized entry or movement of illegal goods. The situation is stable, and our forces are providing a strong response to any disruptive activities,” Sachar stated.
Joint Operation Recovers Arms and Ammunition in Churachandpur
In a separate joint operation conducted on September 12, security forces, including the Indian Army, CRPF, and Manipur Police, made a significant arms recovery in the Maulsang area of Churachandpur district. Acting on intelligence, they seized a 7.62mm AK Series Assault Rifle with a magazine, three medium-sized improvised mortars (Pompi), and other warlike equipment.
