Kolkata Rape-Murder: Colleagues Share Details Of Victim’s Final Hours

Colleagues of the Kolkata doctor who was tragically raped and murdered inside RG Kar Medical College and Hospital have shed light on her grueling schedule in the hours leading up to her death. Known for her punctuality and dedication, the victim had been commuting from her home on the outskirts of Kolkata for the past year, although she previously stayed in a hostel.

On August 8, she arrived at the hospital’s OPD at 10 am and was assigned to unit 2A, where she admitted six patients, according to a TOI report. After 3 pm, she had lunch in the sleeping room, where staff usually ate. “She came in after 3 pm and had her food in the sleeping room next door where we usually eat. She was a little reserved but very focused,” a colleague shared with the newspaper. He added that he left the hospital at 4:30 pm, instructing her to call if any patient’s condition worsened. “The call never came, and the next morning I learned of her gruesome death,” he said.

Another junior colleague recalled encountering her in the corridor just hours before the crime. “Didi was dashing to the ward when I bumped into her in the corridor. We exchanged pleasantries, and she said she had a lot of work in the ward,” the trainee doctor remembered.

At midnight, after having dinner, she took a round of the ward. Following 16 hours of work, she retired to the seminar hall at 2 am. The next morning, she was found dead in the hospital.

The police arrested a Kolkata police civil volunteer named Sanjay Roy for the crime. CCTV footage captured Roy entering the seminar hall at 4:03 am, and his Bluetooth headset was discovered at the scene. During a polygraph test, Roy claimed he found the woman already injured and unconscious when he entered the seminar hall. However, the CBI believes he is attempting to mislead investigators. The agency informed the court that the woman was not gang-raped but was allegedly raped and killed by Sanjay Roy.
