Sanjay Roy, the prime suspect in rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has asserted his innocence through his lawyer, Kavita Sarkar. Roy, who was arrested on August 10 following the brutal murder, claims he is being falsely accused.

According to his lawyer, Roy has consistently maintained his innocence, even during a polygraph test. Roy was reportedly questioned about his actions after the alleged murder, to which he responded that the question was irrelevant because he did not commit the crime. He told investigators that the woman was already unconscious when he entered the seminar hall, and he only saw her covered in blood. In a state of panic, he fled the scene, he claimed.

Roy also contends that he did not know the victim and believes he is being framed. When asked why he did not report the incident to the police if he was innocent, he explained that he feared no one would believe him.

Kavita Sarkar suggested that the real perpetrator might be someone else, highlighting a potential security lapse since Roy had easy access to the seminar hall. She argued that this breach could have allowed another individual to commit the crime.

The victim, a trainee doctor, was found raped and murdered in the seminar hall where she had been resting during her 36-hour shift. The autopsy revealed multiple injuries and evidence of sexual assault.
