Chennai PhD Groom’s Marriage Demands Go Viral: ‘Ideal BMI, Homemaking Skills, Grace’

A WhatsApp message listing the marriage demands of a PhD groom from Chennai has gone viral, sparking debate on social media. The groom’s criteria, intended for a prospective medico bride, includes requirements such as having a Body Mass Index (BMI) under 24, handling all household duties without assistance, and treating her career as optional.

Singer Chinmayi Sripaada shared the message on X (formerly Twitter), who wrote, “This is the exact List Of Requirements that a Groom sent to a prospective bride who is a Medico. Groom is a PhD and Gold Medallist apparently. LOL.” The list begins with, “About bride—should be graceful, competent, and smart enough to handle her home and family matters… Ideal if she is within 24 BMI.”

The post quickly went viral, garnering over 2.4 lakh views and 1,800 likes, with users offering mixed reactions. While some criticized the groom’s mindset as outdated, others supported his clarity regarding what he wants in a partner.

One user commented, “BMI is also mentioned, interesting. I’d like to see the groom’s photo and where he stands.” Another defended the groom’s right to have preferences, similar to how some brides’ families have specific demands like a six-figure salary or living separately after marriage.

However, many found the list unrealistic. One user wrote, “Seems very unrealistic and archaic. No smart woman would agree to this. Bro might stay single if he doesn’t change his mindset.” Others appreciated the groom’s straightforwardness, stating, “There are women who prefer to be homemakers. As we shouldn’t judge independent women, we shouldn’t judge those who choose this role.”

The incident has sparked conversations about marriage expectations, personal preferences, and gender roles in modern relationships.
