Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked his 11th Independence Day address from the Red Fort on Tuesday, becoming the third Prime Minister after Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi to achieve this milestone. The theme for this year’s celebration, Viksit Bharat @ 2047, underscores the government’s vision of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047.
Following his address, PM Modi engaged with the audience, greeting children, shaking hands, and waving to the cheering crowd as slogans like “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” resonated.
In his speech, the Prime Minister emphasized India’s strides towards self-reliance, particularly in manufacturing. He pointed out that India, which once imported mobile phones in large quantities, has now built a robust ecosystem and is exporting mobile phones globally.
“There was a time when we imported mobile phones, but today we have developed a mobile phone manufacturing ecosystem, and now we are exporting them to the world,” PM Modi remarked.
The Prime Minister also drew attention to the significant role of women’s self-help groups, noting that around 10 crore women are now contributing across various sectors. “When women become financially independent, society changes,” he said.
Addressing the increasing frequency of natural disasters, PM Modi expressed his condolences to those affected. “This year and in recent years, natural calamities have raised our concerns. Many have faced devastating losses, including the loss of loved ones and significant property damage. I want to express my deepest sympathies to those affected and assure them that the nation stands by their side,” he stated.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for India’s independence, acknowledging the collective efforts of farmers, soldiers, youth, and marginalized communities in shaping the nation.
“This is a day to salute those who fought and sacrificed for our freedom. We bow in reverence to every brave heart. Today, we also recognize the contributions of our farmers, soldiers, and youth who have taken our country to new heights,” he said.
Looking ahead, PM Modi urged the nation to unite with the goal of making India a developed country by 2047. He recalled the determination of 40 crore Indians who fought against colonial rule, stating that 140 crore Indians today can achieve similar feats with the right resolve.
“If 40 crore Indians could break the shackles of colonial rule, then 140 crore Indians can certainly build a Viksit Bharat by 2047. We must now live for the nation, embrace the spirit of self-reliance, and work toward making a strong India,” he concluded.
