Belarus has dispatched military reinforcements to its border with Ukraine following a reported incident involving Ukrainian drones. Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin stated that several drones crossed into Belarusian airspace on Friday, and were intercepted by the country’s air defenses. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko condemned the incident as a “provocation” and ordered measures to ensure state security.

Reinforcements and Increased Readiness

In response to the perceived threat, Belarus has ramped up its military presence in the Gomel and Mozyr regions bordering Ukraine. Lukashenko’s orders include the deployment of special operations forces, ground troops, and missile systems, including ‘Polonez’ and ‘Iskander’ complexes. The Belarusian military has also enhanced its air defense and rocket defense capabilities.

Diplomatic Tensions and Warnings

Belarus’ Foreign Ministry has lodged a strong protest with Ukraine, warning of potential retaliatory actions if further provocations occur. The ministry criticized Ukraine for attempting to escalate the conflict and threatened to reassess the presence of the Ukrainian diplomatic mission in Minsk. Belarusian state media reported that the Foreign Ministry will consult with international allies and organizations about the incident. Ukraine has yet to comment publicly on the accusations.
