Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg called former President Donald Trump several times to apologize and express his lack of support for the Democratic Party, Trump recently claimed.
During a recent interview, Trump recounted the phone conversations: “So, Mark Zuckerberg called me. First of all, he called me a few times. He called me after the event and said, ‘That was really amazing, it was very brave,’” Trump said, possibly referring to an assassination attempt on his life. “He actually announced he’s not gonna support a Democrat because he can’t because he respected me for what I did that day. He actually apologized and said he made a mistake.”
The incident in question occurred last month at a rally in Pennsylvania, where an attempt was made on Trump’s life. A bullet grazed his ear, and as his security detail escorted him to safety, Trump raised his fist in defiance while bleeding. This dramatic moment was captured by an Associated Press photographer and widely disseminated across various media platforms and social media.
However, Facebook initially censored the image, flagging it as an “altered photo.” Meta later issued an apology, explaining that the censorship was a mistake and that the platform’s systems were intended to detect a different version of the image.
In a related incident, Google allegedly censored search keywords related to the assassination attempt. Addressing this, Trump remarked, “Google, nobody called from Google. Google has been very bad. They’ve been very irresponsible,” adding that the company needs to “be careful.”
The relationship between Trump and Zuckerberg has seen significant fluctuations. Last month, Trump threatened to imprison the Meta chief, stemming from Zuckerberg’s decision to ban Trump from Facebook following the US Capitol riots. Despite this tension, Zuckerberg recently expressed admiration for Trump’s reaction to the assassination attempt.
“Seeing Donald Trump get up after getting shot in the face and pump his fist in the air with the American flag is one of the most badass things I’ve ever seen in my life,” Zuckerberg said.
