Watch: Zomato Charging Higher Prices Than Restaurants? Viral Post Reveals Cost Disparity

A recent viral post by a Zomato customer has brought to light a significant price discrepancy between the restaurant’s actual menu and the prices listed on the food delivery platform.

The customer, Abhishek Kothari, shared images on social media showing the difference, with items like Upma and Thatte Idli being priced significantly higher on Zomato compared to the restaurant’s menu. This post has sparked widespread discussion and concern among users.

In his post, Kothari highlighted specific examples from a restaurant called Udupi2Mumbai, where the price of Upma was ₹40 on the restaurant’s bill but listed as ₹120 on Zomato. Similarly, Thatte Idli was priced at ₹60 in the restaurant, while on Zomato, it was ₹161. The post has since gained substantial traction online, with nearly five lakh views and over 2,600 likes.

In response, Zomato acknowledged the issue, stating that the prices on their platform are set by restaurant partners and assured that they would pass on the feedback.

The revelation has sparked mixed reactions among users. Some pointed out that restaurants often increase prices on delivery platforms to cover the commissions charged by these services. Others argued that the convenience of delivery comes with an understandable premium, and the difference in pricing should be expected. The discussion also touched on the broader business model of food delivery platforms and the balance between convenience and cost for consumers.
