On Saturday, US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti was spotted taking a leisurely e-scooter ride in Kolkata’s New Town area. Garcetti praised the use of electric scooters, calling them a prime example of how technology can promote sustainable transit. In a post on X, he expressed enthusiasm for the city’s efforts in sustainability, stating, “As a former mayor, it’s inspiring to see city leaders working to improve their communities. My e-scooter ride in New Town Kolkata, a planned Green City, showcased how technology-driven public transportation systems can enhance sustainability, advance electric vehicle use, and boost public health. Together, we can foster a greener and healthier future! #USIndiaFWDforPlanet.”

Garcetti also highlighted the strengthening ties between the US and India, noting that recent agreements reflect a deep trust between the two nations. He pointed out that the US has agreed to sell its most advanced jet engine technology to India—a move not made with some of its closest allies. Reflecting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US, Garcetti revealed that the visit resulted in 173 collaborative projects. He emphasized that achieving five or ten successful projects from such high-level meetings is considered significant, and mentioned that the partnership includes over 300 initiatives in education and research. Garcetti commended the ongoing cooperation, which includes ambitious research endeavors and mutual understanding between the US and India.
