Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has voiced serious apprehensions regarding what he perceives as a substantial demographic transformation in the state. In an interview with ANI, Sarma highlighted a significant increase in the Muslim population in Assam, rising from 12% in 1951 to approximately 40% currently. He emphasized the profound implications of this demographic shift on district dynamics and societal balance.
Sarma stressed that this issue extends beyond political considerations, characterizing it as a critical “matter of life and death.” His comments come amid ongoing discussions about communal tensions and electoral dynamics in the region, reflecting deep-seated concerns about the evolving demographic landscape of Assam.
