Court Extends Kejriwal’s CBI Custody Until July 25

A Delhi court has extended Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s judicial custody in connection with the CBI’s investigation into the Delhi Excise policy until July 25. This follows the Supreme Court’s decision earlier in the day to grant Kejriwal interim bail in a related money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The Rouse Avenue Court announced the extension of custody on Friday, reflecting the ongoing legal scrutiny of the Delhi Chief Minister. The Supreme Court’s interim bail decision acknowledged Kejriwal’s position as an elected leader and noted his 90-day incarceration period. Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta emphasized that Kejriwal’s arrest and right to life issues are significant, referring these matters to a larger bench for further deliberation.

Despite the interim bail in the ED case, Kejriwal’s judicial custody continues under the CBI’s purview, with the court set to revisit the matter later this month. The court also pointed out that Kejriwal’s continued role as Chief Minister remains his decision to make.

This case has drawn considerable attention, highlighting the complexities and legal battles surrounding the alleged excise policy scam.
