Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama is scheduled to be discharged from a hospital on Saturday following a successful knee surgery in the United States. His personal physician, Dr. Tsetan D Sadutshang, and Secretary to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Tenzin Taklha, provided an update on Dalai Lama’s condition after his total knee replacement surgery on Friday morning.

“The knee surgery this morning was successful, and His Holiness is now resting in his hospital room. His condition is stable,” they said in an online briefing.

Dr. Sadutshang assured that the treatment proceeded without any complications. “There were no issues at all. His Holiness is ready to have his lunch right now. He will be discharged from the hospital tomorrow,” he mentioned.

He also commended the hospital and its staff, emphasizing their dedication and high standards of service. “This hospital is renowned for knee surgery in the US, and the orthopaedic surgeons here are among the best in the country. So, everyone can be assured,” he added.

Dalai Lama had arrived in New York earlier in the week after a stopover in Zurich, Switzerland. He was warmly welcomed by members of the Tibetan community and supporters. His journey to the US for the surgery began from Delhi after departing from Dharamshala.

During his stay in Switzerland, he received a traditional Tibetan reception upon arrival at a Zurich hotel. Supporters and well-wishers gathered to greet him, and he acknowledged their presence as he moved through the hotel lobby.

The Dalai Lama’s health update and journey have drawn attention from hundreds of Tibetans and followers who have gathered to express their respect for the spiritual leader.
