Heavy Downpour

Delhi witnessed intense rainfall yesterday, inundating several low-lying areas and causing significant traffic disruptions across the city. The Meteorological Department forecasts intermittent showers over the next few days, emphasizing the need for continued vigilance and preparedness to mitigate the impact of the ongoing monsoon season.

Terminal 1 Roof Collapse

The heavy downpour led to the collapse of the roof of Delhi’s IGI Airport Terminal 1 in the early morning hours, leading to disruptions in operations and prompting immediate emergency response efforts. It has raised serious concerns about infrastructure safety.

Fatalities Recorded

One person died and nearly six others were injured when a section of the roof at Delhi’s Airport Terminal-1 collapsed onto vehicles, including taxis.

Authorities Responses

The emergency response team, fire safety team, CISF, and NDRF teams were promptly sent to the location. Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu visited Terminal 1 and assured that a comprehensive structural inspection would be conducted. Compensation will be given to the deceased’s family and the injured. PM Narendra Modi is closely monitoring the situation.

Flight Schedule Chaos

Until further notice, all departures from Terminal 1, which includes domestic flights operated by IndiGo and SpiceJet, have been suspended.

Seeking Alternatives

The Civil Aviation Ministry, in collaboration with airport authorities, is currently making extensive arrangements to temporarily shift operations from Terminal 1 (T1) to Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 to ensure continued smooth operations.
