Bridge Collapses In Bihar Kishanganj Amid Monsoon Floods

A section of a 13-year-old bridge collapsed in Bihar’s Kishanganj on Wednesday evening due to flooding triggered by heavy rainfall, severing access for 40,000 people across several villages. This marks the fourth bridge collapse in Bihar within a week.

The bridge, constructed under the Mukhyamantri Gram Sadak Yojana in 2011 at a cost of ₹25 lakh, gave way under the force of floodwaters. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far. Authorities have closed off the bridge and halted traffic as a precautionary measure.

Executive engineer Shrawan Sahni stated, “We have been monitoring the bridge and wrote to the department after the collapse.” Circle officer Ashish Kumar confirmed traffic has been stopped and guards deployed due to existing damage and the recent flooding from Nepal’s catchment areas.

This incident follows recent bridge collapses in Araria and West Champaran districts, highlighting ongoing concerns over infrastructure stability amidst monsoon conditions in Bihar.
