Eldest Son of Aamir Khan, Junaid Khan, is currently basking in the limelight following the release of his debut film, Maharaj, on Netflix. Despite some initial controversy surrounding the film’s release, Junaid’s performance has garnered significant attention.
In a resurfaced interview with Lehren India, Aamir shared the story behind Junaid’s name and the family dynamics that influenced it. Aamir revealed that it was his youngest sister, Farhat Khan, who first suggested the name. “The name of my child was first suggested by my youngest sister Farhat. And my parents were very happy. He is their first grandchild. I am also very happy,” Aamir said in the interview.

Elaborating on the meaning of the name, Aamir mentioned, “There was a lot of discussion on the name. It went on for several months. Then finally we decided on Junaid and liked it very much. It means ‘Warrior.’ Jun is spear, that is used by the fighter who stands at the very front of the war. It is the most dangerous position, and that is Junaid.
“Junaid is Aamir Khan’s first child with his ex-wife, Reena Dutta, with whom he also has a daughter, Ira Khan. Aamir and Reena were married for 16 years before their divorce. Aamir later married filmmaker Kiran Rao, with whom he has a son, Azad Rao Khan. They too divorced after 15 years of marriage.
Maharaj, directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra, is based on the Maharaj Libel Case of 1862. In the film, Junaid portrays the role of reformer and journalist Karsandas Mulji. The film also stars Sharvari and Jaideep Ahlawat.
Aamir Khan was last seen in Laal Singh Chaddha and is set to appear next in Sitaare Zameen Par.
