EAM Jaishankar Heads To UAE Today For Strategic Talks, Gaza On Agenda

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is set to visit the United Arab Emirates (UAE) today, for extensive discussions with Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, his counterpart. In addition to discussing bilateral matters, Jaishankar and Al Nahyan will also address the broader situation in Gaza.

The Ministry of External Affairs mentioned that Jaishankar’s visit will offer a chance to assess the full range of the extensive strategic partnership between India and the UAE, along with evaluating regional and global advancements.

It said in a statement, “External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will pay an official visit to the UAE today,” adding further, “During the visit, the external affairs minister will have a meeting with his UAE counterpart on wide-ranging issues of the partnership.”

In recent years, the relationship between India and the UAE has significantly improved. After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic visit to the UAE in August 2015, the bilateral ties between the two nations were upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

In February 2022, both nations entered into a comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA) aimed at enhancing economic cooperation.

The trade agreement offers many advantages, such as removing and reducing tariffs, promoting a transparent trade atmosphere, and improving market entry for service providers in different industries.

In 2022-23, the UAE ranked among the top four countries investing in India through foreign direct investments. The UAE is home to a robust Indian community of approximately 3.5 million people, making it the largest expatriate group in the country.
