“Nikhil Gupta will now face justice in an American courtroom for his involvement in an alleged plot, directed by an employee of the Indian government, to target and assassinate a U.S. citizen for his support of the Sikh separatist movement in India,” Garland stated. He also added that the extradition underscores the US Justice Department’s commitment to preventing attempts to silence or harm American citizens. It is pertinent to note that Pannun holds dual citizenship of America and Canada.

On Monday, Gupta appeared before a federal court in New York, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges. His case has drawn significant attention due to its international implications and the involvement of a foreign government employee in a plot against a US citizen.
