Heatwave: Will Delhi Experience Respite? Check What IMD Says

The heatwave in the national capital Delhi continues to soar, as on Monday, the maximum temperature at Safdarjung is 45.2 degrees Celsius, which is six times above average normal.

Earlier, the heat index or the feel-like temperature touched 50 degrees Celsius, against 46 degrees Celsius the previous day.

In the previous day, the temperature reached 44.9 degrees Celsius. Moreover, the minimum temperature in delhi, reached 33 degrees Celsius on Monday.

The previous day, the temperature was 33.2 degrees Celsius, with humidity ranging between 24 percent and 48 percent.

But, according to IMD, delhi might witness some rain relief, as light rain expected on Wednesday and Thursday. Thus, it might bring some respite.

However, yesterday, the maximum temperature in delhi reached 46.9 degrees Celsius, with Jafarpur being the hottest area of the city, followed by Pitampura (46.5 degrees), Ayanagar (46.4 degrees), Pusa (46.3 degrees) and Palam (46 degrees).

As per weather department, these conditions will continue to prevail till Tuesday. Despite some expected relief on Wednesday, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 40 degrees.

In addition, the official further revealed, the maximum and minimum temperature will be around 45 and 33 degrees Celsius respectively.

‘The sky will remain clear on Tuesday. There are chances of heatwave conditions in most of the places and severe heatwave in isolated areas along with warm night conditions in many areas. There are chances of strong surface winds, occasionally gusty winds, up to 30-40kmph during daytime.’ said weather official.

According to weather department, it constitutes heatwave, when the maximum temperature exceeds 40 degrees Celsius and is more than 4.5 notches. While a severe heatwave occurs if the maximum temperature surpasses 45 degrees Celsius or it exceeds 6.5 notches.
