16-Year-Old Kaamya Karthikeyan Becomes The Youngest To Scale Mt Everest

India’s Kaamya Karthikeyan has become the youngest Indian to scale Mt. Everest – 8849 meters – from the Nepal side. She is also the second youngest in the world to climb the Everest.

In her journey, her father who is an Indian Navy, Cadr. S Karthikeyan also helped her to climb the Mt Everest.

The Western Naval Command took to X to congratulate the father-daughter duo.

They wrote, “Ms Kaamya Karthikeyan, a 16-year-old, class XII student of Navy Children School, Mumbai and her father Cdr S Karthikeyan of the #IndianNavy successfully summitted Mt. Everest (8849 M) on 20 May 24.”

Resharing this tweet, Indian Navy said, “#IndianNavy congratulates Ms Kaamya Karthikeyan d/o Cdr S Karthikeyan on becoming the youngest #Indian & the second youngest girl in the world to summit Mt Everest from the Nepal side. Kaamya has exhibited immense courage & fortitude in summiting the highest peaks in six of the seven continents.” “#IndianNavy wishes young Kaamya the very best in her aspiration to summit the highest peaks of all seven continents, becoming the youngest girl to do so,” they added. Overjoyed with her achievements, netizens showered the congratulatory message on the post.”

A netizen wrote, “This is simply fantastic news. Kaamya is super phenomenal. I remember a 2021 Navy Day special show which I hosted and she was a guest. Her confidence, charm, articulation belied her young age. One could sense at once that her was a person who would summit many peaks of achievement. @IndiannavyMedia could ascertain if the video is still around. This show was run on Navy’s YouTube channel. @PadmajaParulkar”.

Meanwhile, the other one said, “Wow. What an achievement!” This news came a day after Arunachal Pradesh’s Kabak Yano etched her name in history by becoming the fifth woman from the state to scale Mt Everest.

She is also the first woman from the Nyishi tribe to do so. Yano accomplished this remarkable feat at 11:50 am on Tuesday alongside five other members of the summit team — Babu Sherpa, Ngima Dorjee Sherpa, Subash Rai, Lakpa Nurbu Sherpa and Shere Sherpa — all hailing from Nepal.

In an interview with ANI she says, “… I recently summited Mt. Everest… I became the second youngest girl in the world and the youngest Indian to climb Mt. Everest from the Nepal side. It’s been a dream of mine for a very long time. It feels good to finally achieve it and come back safe. I did my first Himalayan trek in Uttarakhand when I was 7 years old. Since then, I got hooked to trekking… In 2017, I trekked to the Everest base camp… Mt. Everest was the sixth out of the 7 summits for me…”
