In a significant development in the high-profile Pune porsche crash case, the 17-year-old boy accused of driving the Porsche that collided with a motorbike, causing two deaths, has asserted that his family driver was actually at the wheel during the accident. This claim is corroborated by two friends who were with him at the time, as reported by India Today.
Driver’s statement and family’s claims
On Thursday, Pune Police interrogated the accused teenager’s friend and the family driver, both of whom were in the car during the fatal accident. Initially, the driver claimed he was behind the wheel when the crash happened. The minor’s father also maintained that the family driver was driving the vehicle on that tragic night.
Police inquiry and the grandfather’s involvement
Pune Police have broadened their investigation to encompass the grandfather of the accused teenager. They are examining an offense registered against the juvenile’s father, multiple staff members, and the proprietors of two liquor-serving establishments in the Mundhwa area. The grandfather was questioned along with his son to verify details.
Legal proceedings
The Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) ordered the teenager to be remanded to an observation home on Wednesday, following public outrage over his quick bail release. While there, the juvenile will undergo psychological evaluations. The police have charged him under IPC sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 304A (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving), and pertinent sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Grandfather’s alleged underworld connections
Reports have emerged indicating that the teenager’s grandfather has ties to the underworld. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) charged him with hiring a hitman from Chhota Rajan’s gang to assassinate Shiv Sena corporator Ajay Bhosale in 2009. The CBI claims that the grandfather enlisted Rajan to carry out Bhosale’s murder following a failed mediation over a property dispute.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Bhosale said, “In 2009, Chhota Rajan contacted me to mediate in a property dispute between the teen’s grandfather and his brother. When I refused, the builder contracted Rajan, leading to the attack on me on October 11, 2009.”
