The Mates of My Soul

We all have soul aches, which are some ancient yearnings and longings, nestled deep inside the recesses of our beings, trickling down to the marrow of our bones. They play peek-a-boo with us all the time. Sometimes knocking on the doors of our hearts like sheets of rain falling on a parched land, sometimes as small whispers which keep nudging the consciousness inside us to acknowledge its presence in our lives and sometimes like a mighty roar unable to contain itself in the limited physical cages that we walk in. Then eventually, comes the outlet with either tears trickling down our cheeks for no exact reason or sadness engulfing us like a shroud, until a cathartic breeze coming out of nowhere, wraps itself around us and redeems us from the gnawing clutches of the pressure being built up inside us, threatening to crack open our crowns.

Often, these unexplained soul urgings for something beyond the obvious come when we touch upon sights and sounds which tug at our heart-strings. There is a world thriving beyond our five senses and what meets our eye which reaches out to us during specific time and space zones strewn across our days, when the veil separating the two worlds is at its thinnest. This is when we suddenly find answers to the questions plaguing our lives and journeys; this is when we are reminded of a past loved one just out of the blue, this is when we take a trip down our memory lane and relive beautiful memories plucked from our glorious pasts, when we replay our golden moments culled out from our childhood and also when we try to solve the mysterious bonds binding us to some other kindred souls and co-travellers in this lifetime. This is the time when an invisible hand of a higher power comes down to iron out the creases from the fabric encasing our souls. And we instantly feel a boost of energy pulsating through our bodies, also finding that much needed spring in our steps, while living out our stories in the here and the now. This is when we are re-plugged into the socket of our lives and are rebooted.

In my case, this happens when I hear the soul-warming and sometimes the melancholic call of the cuckoo calling out to its mate for union, just when I open my eyes to welcome in a new day or during the golden hour when I stand on my terrace looking deep into the face of the fading sun. This is when this black tempter of a bird decides to visit me with its melodious notes, all aflame like spring in its full passion. It lands right in front of my eyes, sometimes resting its vocal cords for a while to look straight into my eyes as if downloading some ancient wisdom from the universe. It also happens when I hear the heart-wrenching song of the peacock sending encoded messages to his beloved, sometimes even in my sleep, deep into the night. Sometimes I find myself lost in the raucous and the hilarious chatter of the seven sisters, when they drop by for their evening bath in the antique bird wash perched pretty in my garden.

It also happens when the light streaming through the gaps in the lush canopies of blooming trees, quiver in splotches on the ground just below it or just when I catch a whiff of the fragrance of the golden champa fragrant in the park opposite my abode. Sometimes also when Fennie- a stray cat from my neighbourhood bounces straight into my lap, shaking me out of my reverie, wanting to rub her whiskers in my palms before she proceeds to lick my face. Our Ancient Spirit Ancestors

These sights, sounds, animals, birds and plants are all our guides. These ancient beings of love and light have been around on this planet much before we stepped on it. They arrive at a precise time and moment in our lives when we need them the most and they carry hidden messages in them as guidance and support for us from the world beyond, just when we are standing at the crossroads of our life all lost. All we need to do is to shed our duality, egos and masks to break through the corrugated glass visions which cloud our existences in the matrix that we live in. These spirit guides help us grab a crystal clear sight of our paths and purposes for this lifetime. One cannot feel two ways about interacting and soaking in the wisdom from these spirit guides because absorbing their energies uplift, rejuvenate and cleanse our auras. We can recognize these angels in our lives when they repeatedly start making inroads in our awareness via our dreams, daily lives or as visions in our meditations. When the time is ripe, these spirit totems start crossing our lives and paths with an urgency which is hard to miss. Don’t be surprised if you catch them following your car or photo bombing your captures. You can also find them perched at the most unlikeliest of places looking straight at you making sure you receive their message. Whenever I have felt lost or have met with fork bends in my life, I have been paid visits by these divine beings of love that play an instrumental part in helping me ascend over the chitter-chatter of this world and follow my intuition and my sixth sense to help clear through the heavy fog of living it all out here and to walk the paths of this life tuned into the rhythms of my soul, it’s most intimate callings and a little bit of shaking of my hips to the beats of my favourite song.
