Hamas Accepts Qatar-Mediated Proposal On Hostage Release

Amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Hamas has agreed on a Qatar and Egypt-mediated proposal. Thus, hinting at the potential conclusion towards the end of the conflict.

As per the document accessed by CNN (citing reliable source), it has laid out a comprehensive plan that aims at thinning tensions and paving the way for sustainable peace.

What Does the Proposal Say? 

According to this proposal, this agreement will be implemented in three phases, lasting 42 days.

  1. First, it involves the release of 33 Israeli hostages which include women, children, the elderly, and the sick for six weeks.
  2. In return, the forces of Israel have to withdraw from parts of Gaza. besides, the surveillance flights will cease operations for 10 hours daily.
  3. Disarmed Palestinians should be allowed free movement throughout the Gaza Strip.

Additionally, the agreement stipulates that for every Israeli hostage (same age group) released by Hamas, 30 Palestinian prisoners over the age of 50, as well as 30 women and children will be exchanged.

Furthermore, the female IDF hostage soldiers are also included in the 33 hostages. Meanwhile, Israel has also agreed to release 50 Palestinian prisoners for every IDF women soldier including those 30, who are serving life sentences.

Meanwhile, the second phase of the agreement will focus on the establishment of sustainable period of calm in Gaza which includes the release of remaining hostages including civilian men and IDF male soldiers.

But more details regarding this specific phase is still under wraps. But according to CNN, this phase will build more on the progress made in first phase.

Then the final and the third phase, outlines a comprehensive rebuilding plan for Gaza. Which will span 3 to 5 years. Underscoring the importance of stability and prosperity of the inhabitants.

This development has sparked hope among officials and stakeholders. Qatar especially expressed optimism for swift resolution of the conflict. The Jordan’s foreign affairs minister Ayman Safadi too expressed similar sentiments. Emphasizing on the establishment of comprehensive agreement.
