TMC’s Gautam Deb On Kunal Ghosh’s Removal: “There Are Some Reasons…”

Party leader Gautam Deb mentioned on Thursday that there are several reasons behind Kunal Ghosh’s removal from the role of General Secretary of the All India Trinamool Congress. However, he opted not to elaborate further on the issue.

“Today the direction has come to drop Kunal Ghosh from the post of Trinamool General Secretary. I don’t know what the actual reason is, but some reasons are there,” In an interview with ANI, Gautam Deb stated.

Shortly after Kunal Ghosh publicly praised BJP Kolkata North candidate Tapas Ray, the TMC suspended Ghosh from his role as General Secretary.

At a recent blood donation event in the city, Ghosh was seen alongside former TMC MLA Roy, commending him as the “ideal” candidate.

Meanwhile, the TMC asserted that Ghosh’s views “do not align with” the party’s stance and should not be associated with it. This statement was signed by Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien.

“Recently, Mr. Kunal Ghosh has been expressing views that do not align with those of the party. It is important to clarify that these are his personal opinions and should not be attributed to the party. Only statements issued from AITC headquarters should be considered the official position of the party,” the statement said.

“Mr. Ghosh was previously relieved from his role as party spokesperson. Now, he has been removed from the position of General Secretary of the state organization. We urge all media outlets not to conflate his views with those of the party, as doing so may necessitate legal action,” it also added.

Responding to O’Brien’s comment referring to him as a “quizmaster,” Ghosh asserted that he had resigned from his positions as general secretary and spokesperson some time ago, deeming a public announcement unnecessary.

“I have resigned from the post of spokesperson and General Secretary and tweeted about it. I had removed these designations from my ‘X’ handle. If anyone says that they have removed me, this cannot be right,” speaking to ANI on Wednesday, Ghosh stated.
