The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended a Sub-Inspector (SI) and an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Chandigarh Police in connection with a case involving the acceptance of a bribe from a complainant. The apprehended accused individuals are Balwinder Singh, SI from Police Station Sector 17, Chandigarh, and Harmeet Singh, ASI from the PO Cell, Chandigarh Police.
A case was registered by the CBI against the ASI based on allegations that he threatened the complainant and demanded an illegal gratification of Rs. 1 lakh in exchange for closing a complaint and not registering an FIR against the complainant. It was further alleged that the bribe amount was negotiated down to Rs. 40,000, and subsequently, the accused agreed to accept Rs. 10,000 as part payment. Searches are being conducted at the residential premises of the accused persons in Chandigarh and Mohali. The investigation is ongoing.
