General Manoj Pande, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), virtually inaugurated the New Command Hospital in Udhampur today, amidst the presence of esteemed army and civil dignitaries.
Spanning across 60 acres, the newly inaugurated hospital, constructed at a cost of 274 Crore, boasts 650 beds with provisions for an additional 200 beds during emergencies. It has been meticulously designed to cater to the healthcare needs of defence personnel in Jammu and Kashmir. The hospital’s main building comprises a basement, ground floor, and four additional floors, equipped with multiple lifts, ramps, and staircases for efficient patient and staff movement.
The hospital features eight state-of-the-art operation theatres, a robust medical gas pipeline system, advanced fire fighting and central air conditioning systems, and other cutting-edge medical treatment facilities. Emphasizing environmental sustainability, the complex incorporates an effluent treatment plant and central sewage treatment plant for responsible water management through recycling.
In addition to medical facilities, the complex offers accommodations for staff, training facilities, and welfare amenities. Special attention has been given to patient and guest comfort with the provision of guest suites, a community center, and plans for additional amenities like a library and gym within the premises.
The journey towards completion of this ambitious project encountered challenges, including basement flooding during the rainy season, which were effectively addressed through collaboration with experts from IIT Jammu who implemented innovative solutions.
The inauguration of the New Command Hospital marks a significant milestone in healthcare provision for defence personnel in Jammu and Kashmir. The Northern Command extends heartfelt gratitude for the support received from various stakeholders on this momentous occasion, which heralds a new era of advanced medical care for the region.
